Join Chai Hadassah as they welcome historian Leslie Goddard, PhD, for this illustrated lecture, as she explores the history of the fashion icon, Coco Chanel. Versatile, dependable, and affordable, the Little Black Dress, or “LBD,” has become the fashion equivalent of a Model T Ford. Learn how Chanel helped dissociate black from mourning, how Audrey Hepburn helped establish the LBD, and how it has been reinvented by everyone from Betty Boop to Prada.

Leslie Goddard holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and master’s degrees in museum studies and in theater. She is a lifelong resident of the Chicago area and has written two books on Chicago history. She has been lecturing and performing on topics in history for more than fifteen years and her programs have been seen by audiences in a dozen states.
