Greater Detroit Nurses and Allied Healthcare Council "The Unconsciousness of Bias: Understanding Anti-Black Female Racism"

November 10, 2021 @ 7:00PM — 9:00PM Eastern Time (US & Canada)

Rev. Dr. Patricia Coleman-Burns will talk about how Implicit or Unconscious Bias, as social cognitions, are unconscious attitudes and stereotypes that can manifest themselves in our daily lives, as we try to find patterns and navigate the overwhelming stimuli in this very complicated world. There are many different categories and examples of implicit biases. This talk will specifically focus on anti-Black racism and the intersection of class, race, misogyny, gender, nativity, and sexuality. The goal is for participants to walk away with strategies for intervening and interrupting as allies, co-conspirators, and collaborators. Participants will explore how this discussion applies to their practice and experiences.
